OliveTree Middle School Class Information
We consider it a joy and a privilege to partner with you in providing a Christ centered program. With students and teachers working together in the classroom and students and parents working together at home, your student can be successful at OliveTree.
Our desire is that every lesson taught, every word of encouragement, and every effort made by our kids to learn and grow would be glorifying to Christ. Giving Christ first place is more than just a slogan, it requires intention. We purpose to use every opportunity within the classroom to point kids back to God and His Word. We also believe that Christ is exalted when we strive for excellence. God deserves our best!
Teaching from a Christian perspective is the emphasis for our enrichment program, by which we strive to be a blessing to you. Please know that OliveTree is a non-profit organization, which seeks to keep operating costs as low as possible, At under $4 per Middle School class (6th, 7th, 8th), we hope you agree that OliveTree is a great value for your dollar.

Grade Level Class Information
6th Grade
Apologia Science Lab 6
Scientific experiments and projects in class, such as testing bacteria content around the house, finding their blood type, creating a cell model from Jello and candy, and building a stethoscope! The note-taking journal is uniquely designed to correspond with every assignment and activity in the course book, providing you with a record of your student's scientific endeavors throughout the year. Students will enjoy doing experiments in class, learning to work together. Students will read and test at home. Student will provide textbook. Texts: Exploring Creation with Anatomy and Physiology and Anatomy Note-Taking Journal. Lab fee is $25.00
Logic and Reasoning 6
Logic will do more to teach the students to think clearly, reason well, and spot errors in the reasoning of others, than any other activity. A good grasp of the concepts taught here will help the students in many areas of life.

7th Grade
Apologia Science Lab 7
A systematic introduction to science in general and has no prerequisites. This program covers the Scientific method, simple machines, archaeology, geology, paleontology, biology, human anatomy and physiology. Students will enjoy doing the experiments in groups, learning to work together. Students will provide the text book and there is a $25 lab fee.

Effective Communication 7
Students in the 7th grade will quickly understand that the art of speaking eloquently and effectively is a useful tool for anyone. With the benefit of a classroom setting, students will engage in oral and written exercises designed to improve basic and advanced communication skills. Each child will learn how to prepare various assignments and speeches with excellence. Another critical skill for Junior High Students to learn is how to efficiently take notes and organize classroom information. These skills will undoubtedly prepare them to reach their academic potential.

WriteShop 1 Writing Class 7
Do you wish you had the time to Teach, Direct and Evaluate your child's writing? Wouldn't it be great to have some positive peer pressure for a change? 7th graders in the OliveTree Writeshop 1 writing class will benefit from reading their writing aloud to the class.
Writeshop 1 will teach students to develop strong paragraphs with clarity, conciseness, colorful vocabulary and interesting sentence types. Descriptive, narrative and informative writing are covered using prewriting activities, dictation, brainstorming, sloppy copy, first revision, editing and final draft. Students will provide the Writeshop 1 textbook.

Note to Parents Regarding Pre-Algebra: If you are planning to take the Algebra 1 class at OliveTree in the future, we strongly recommend that you do BJU Press Pre-Algebra with your student at home. Since homeschoolers come from a variety of math curriculums, this ensures each student is ready for the critically important Algebra 1 class.
8th Grade
Apologia Science Lab 8
This course has no prerequisites. This course will begin with a detailed discussion of the world around you and what makes it work. It will then take you out into the universe so that you may learn the majesty of God's creation. From the inner workings of atoms to the grandeur of galaxies, be prepared to be awed and amazed with what the Creator has made for YOU! Students will enjoy doing the experiments in groups, learning to work together. Students will provide the text book and there is a $25 lab fee.

Worldview Class 8
Students in 8th grade will learn to detect the world views of others and also be aware of our own, why it is ours and why, in light of so many options, we think it is true. "The Universe Next Door, A Basic Worldview Catalog" text by James W. Sire will guide class discussions.
Students will be challenged to think as they learn to defend their faith. Rich discussions and debates will be centered around current events as well as the text.

WriteShop 2 Writing Class 8
Students will learn to produce interesting lively narratives. WriteShop 2 will teach students to write many types of essays. Each one will help them learn to express their opinion and then develop and support it with facts, details and examples. WriteShop 1 is not a pre-requisite.

Algebra 1
We offer an Algebra I course to 8th grade students who have completed a pre-algebra class. Students will receive High School credit for this class. This High School class consists of 2-17 week semesters, starting two weeks before the regular OliveTree classes and ending 2 weeks after the end of the regular OliveTree classes. This class meets on Monday and Thursday. Please see the High School page for more information and tuition prices.
